In March 2013, the government announced that they would introduce a dedicated primary PE and Sport Premium that would go directly to primary school head teachers so that they could decide how best to use it to provide sporting activities for pupils.
Since then, the Government announced that from September 2017, schools will receive an additional £16,000 (plus £10 per pupil) to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision at school.
PE, physical activity and school sport have a high profile at Pudsey Waterloo Primary School and we strongly believe that they contribute to the holistic development of young people. Our high quality PE curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in both competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. It is through these opportunities that pupils become physically confident, they learn that physical activity is 'fun' and important to lead a healthy lifestyle. Our children compete in many competitions and other activities which build character and embed key values such as teamwork, fairness and respect for themselves and others. We recognise that PE, physical activity and school sport make an active contribution towards aspects of pupils' social, moral, spiritual and cultural development.
We have decided to spend the money in ways that ensure it has a long lasting impact on the teaching and learning of our pupils.
