Children at Waterloo are taught handwriting using the Nelson handwriting scheme.   They begin learning to join letters in year 2 and practise joining regularly from year 3.  Children also make the transition to writing with a pen in year 3 and the vast majority of children write with pens from this point throughout the rest of their time in school.
